They say 25% of ATRs are rated poorly. What the DOE, media, and even our own union won’t share is that poorly rated ATRs are evaluated with classes they never met and in subjects they’re not licensed in. Don’t forget to look at the age of those “bad teachers.” Our … Continue reading
UPDATE: Agreement here: http://www.uft.org/files/attachments/atr-agreement-2017.pdf
Last night the below email was sent to ATRs and describes $50,000 and $35,000 buyout options. So far, according to group email lists, blogs and social media, many seem like they are staying put. Only the small percentage, who … Continue reading
There have been two stories published recently that involve a UFT members’ personnel file and cleaning it out of derogatory material.
There has been chatter that ATRs will be placed long term. The rumors were confirmed by principals, HR directors and field supervisors.
Today, Chancellor Fariña put out a notice for principals to make a request for long term ATRs. Requests for ATRs, to cover long term vacancies, is not new, … Continue reading
Although the ATR system is not efficient or ideal in terms of having experienced educators permanently in the classroom, teachers can somewhat educate on a short term basis. School psychologists, social workers and guidance counselors however really need the time to work and build rapport with their students.
This very … Continue reading

On Monday September 26, 2016, at a UFT Executive Board meeting, President Michael Mulgrew stated that discussions regarding ATRs took place with the DOE that day. He then added “They did not go well.” and then stopped. He did not say what didn’t go well and, as in the case … Continue reading
The results from previous survey have been used to debunk myths about ATRs. It is very important that we have as many ATRs … Continue reading
Finally a reporter who actually interviews ATRs about what is really happening in the ATR pool. Too bad the UFT leadership continues to not only ignore the issue, but is with the DOE to help fan the flame. Two more months until Amy Arundell has her once a year boilerplate meeting with ATRs. Don’t expect articles like this in the UFT’s NY Teacher newspaper. Continue reading
An elementary school teacher assigned to teach high school social studies. A middle school math teacher sent to teach PreK. A guidance counselor working with students for a week and then being pulled away. Continue reading
Even though open market is closed for most, it is open for ATRs all year round. At any time ATRs can go on and see what vacancies exist so they can apply to those specific jobs .

ATR Alliance members will be going to this week’s October 14th UFT Delegate Assembly.
Although we cannot enter the actual assembly, go in, give your ID and file number and get a visitor’s pass to go in to the viewing room.
ATRs will be going there monthly.
Last Spring, former Jamaica High School Chapter Leader James Eterno, Francesco Portelos, Al Zucker and August Lempelmeier drafted a formal request for ATRs to have their own functional chapter. This was done in order to meet the needs of their unique situation. The UFT has 40 such functional chapters. A … Continue reading
ATRs do not get the support they need from the DOE nor the UFT. No ATR specific professional development sessions are offered and no support for workplace harassment.
ATR Assignment is holding its own workshop this Sunday. All ATRs are welcomed. You must register.
In the Spring of 2015, an ATR Survey was shared online and within the ATR Alliance email list. The results are staggering and although only a fraction of the over 1,200 ATRs filled out the form, we do believe it was a representative sample set. Continue reading
Lies. Harassment. Bullying. Corruption. There is one tool (weapon) that can and is helping veteran and experienced ATRs fight back. Recorders.
More and more ATRs are reporting that they have audio recorded their field supervisors and principals.
“Shouldn’t you be thinking … Continue reading
The United Federation of Teachers union is not fairly representing members not permanently placed. We deserve our own chapter and elected chapter representatives.
This is a copy of the letter sent to President Michael Mulgrew and others.
